About Dogsbody Hosting Print

Dogsbody Hosting was started in 2003 when Dan the owner (Mr Dogsbody to you) realised that he was paying a lot of money to various ISP's to run a small number of differant websites for friends and family. Not only that but as he created bigger and better websites he found he had to keep moving from ISP to ISP to find hosting that could provide what he needed.

Dan decided that enough was enough and set up his own servers with all the infrastructure needed for hosting needs. This included web servers, e-mail, databases, domains, DNS & not forgetting the audio/video streaming infrastructure. With all of this in place it was easy to create anything he needed.

It was quickly realised that a lot of people were in this situation and were searching for a way out. The infrastructure was there and Dogsbody Hosting was born!! We are proud to offer a hosting service that is personal, customisable and second to none.

In doing research for Dogsbody Hosting and talking to many people it seems there is a definate list of ISP types that you can choose from. The choice is always yours, here is the list as we see it...

  • The "well you're already a customer" ISP - This group of ISP's rely on that fact that you already use their services to hook you in to use them for other things. Classically this is done with dial-up or broadband connections but we have also seen it done with banks!! It's bad enough my telephone company thinking they know how to run a website let alone my bank!! The truth is that the internet is a buyers market at the moment, you can choose which bits you want to buy from where. The same is true of us, should you wish you could use Dogsbody Hosting for your website and another ISP for e-mail.
  • The bulk ISP - This group is in the make or break market, they have a lot of infrastructure in place and can sell their product very very cheaply. They are in the market for selling as much as possible with very little mark up to a lot of people. It is very rare that any other ISP can get anywhere near them on price however these sorts of ISP are so stretched that they can not cope with the human aspect of customers. Their technical support is practically non-existant and not what you need when there is a problem on your site.
  • The stuck in the past ISP - These ISP's are good companies that sell their services for a good price, unfortunately they never move forward. The internet is constantly evolving at a very fast rate and technology/programming is changing very fast. ISP's have to be willing to move with the times and provide the new tools as and when their customers need them.

It is our goal never to fall into these traps (not really likely anyway) and always give a helpful, friendly and up-to-date service to our customers.
